A Week With Big Bass Drop

April 2, 2026 · Lukas Berg

I'll admit I was skeptical about Big Bass Drop at first. A fishing arcade game didn't scream 'stay up too late,' but here we are, seven days deep and still chasing that one deep-water catch that keeps getting away.

The whole thing hinges on timing. You cast, you watch the fish drift up through the layers, and you reel at the right beat. Get it wrong and your line goes slack; get it right and it's weirdly satisfying, like nailing a rhythm game note. That feeling is the whole hook, and it holds up over dozens of sessions.

The progression is light but well judged. New lures actually change your approach, and the stormier fishing spots make familiar fish behave in new ways. I started treating each spot like a small puzzle: which lure, which timing window, how patient to be.

My one gripe is that the difficulty curve flattens out a bit in the mid-game before the harder spots open up. But that's a small complaint about a game that never asks for more than five minutes at a time.

If you want something clean, responsive, and one-handed for the commute, Big Bass Drop earns its spot on the home screen.
